An Afternoon at The Art Institute of Chicago

Perchance this post may look somewhat similar to a previous post that earned a little Freshly Pressed Fame. Indeed, the circumstances are mighty comparable. Most obviously, I’ve spent several days in Chicago and never once managed to pull my camera out until I got to an art museum. Once there I only took several pictures of art. This time, however, I felt more conspicuous than last time as less people seemed to be snapping photos. Made me feel a little self-conscious. But, my lovely friend, Matt, was doing the same, so that lessened the insecurity a bit.

We actually weren't supposed to take pictures in this exhibition, so what you see above is pure contraband.

Can you tell I enjoy Impressionism?

I could not get this girl to move. So now she will forever be a part of my memory of the painting.

Isn't she amazing?

I'm fascinated by the detail here

Look familiar? This time it's Matt, not Adam. But I still enjoy the effect.

Nothing caps off an afternoon of art like beer. PBR to be exact.

I’m heading to Kansas City today for part deux of my spring break. I can’t say I know too many people who are going to places far colder than their original location for the week, but I’m enjoying the fellowship enough to make up for the frigid temperatures. Jill was a fantastic hostess and I couldn’t be happier with the time I spent here. Next time, though, I’m coming in the summer.

See you in Killer City.

SB Twenty Twelve

Who’s tewnty-five years old and gets a Spring Break (and is [thank the heavenly stars above] not a teacher)?

ME!

Most people in my program are not going anywhere for Spring Break, maybe because they think that would be silly or, justifiably, they have a lot of homework to do over the week. I approached the week off of school a little differently by buying a ticket to Chicago without telling anyone. A few days after I purchased this ticket I called my lovely friend Elizabeth to tell her I was coming to see her in Chicago in only a few weeks’ time. Rather than exclaim pure tinkling notes of ecstasy, she told me she was moving back to Kansas in less than a week. Oh, cripes.

Alas, never fear! I have many a friend in the city. My lovely traveling companion, and all around trickster friend, Jill, lives there as well and it’s going to be a weekend of hamming it up all over the city. “Look out Midwest! The Jill and Kristina Comedy Troupe is coming through!” <—Might need to work on that intro, it’s a bit of a mouthful.

Singapore is still reeling from our antics.

I think eating is on the agenda.Obviously some shopping will be dominated. Beer-drinking is high up on the priority list. It’s going to be pretty fantastic.

After Chicago I head back to Killer City (that’s Kansas City to all the non-thugs out there) for a little relaxation and down-time. I have little-to-nothing planned for the rest of the week so I am looking forward to a little solitude before the more strenuous second half of the semester.

I’ll try to be around with some updates, but I’m not promising anything. When we’re not busy cracking other people up (which is actually rare) we are lost in a torrent of hilarity amidst the two of us.
