Two girls hittin’ Chucktown hard for the next few days. Juuuust kidding, we’re pretty tame, but we will be having a blast. I’ve made Pimento cheese–something I completely hated until I moved here–made dinner reservations, planned a plantation tour, and a carriage ride. More or less, it will be fabulous. And completely glamorous. I mean look at her here, working it in jail:
My dance moves may not look quite like Robyn’s (less double-fist punching and rib twitching), but I too enjoy a good solo dance sesh. I probably won’t spend the weekend dancing on my own in the corner, but I will jam to this song. Thank you, Girls, for rejuvenating this tune.
What are you doing this magical Memorial Day weekend? We’re heading to the beach and I could not be more pumped. I’m also pretty psyched to bust out my red, white, and blues. Might have jumped the gun yesterday and donned white jeans, a blue top, and red shoes. Just saying it’s possible that it happened.
Have a glorious weekend!
Phil and Jill are on their way here as we speak! Jill will be arriving from Chicago and Phil hails from Kansas City. Surprisingly, we all met in Zurich, Switzerland and have been insta-friends from the moment we first met. Adam and I can’t wait to show them around Charleston, fill them up with seafood, pour some drinks down their throat, throw them in the sun (where they will probably get a sunburn), and generally take care of them for a couple days. It’s going to be the best.
My least favorite part about living in Charleston is being so far away from all my friends and family (and for the record, my second favorite part is the cockroaches– just a couple weeks ago I killed a cucaracha the size of a small car who was walking across my living room floor like he lived here and was going to the kitchen for a glass of water ::shudder::). I just miss the comfort of being surrounded by those you love and care about. So when people come to visit, or I get to jet away for a quick weekend, I feel giddy and pre-adolescent (tween) excited. Hopefully we remember to take pictures this time so I have loads to share with you next week!
Have a wonderful weekend! I hope you do something that makes your heart swell.
I’ve never tied a tie in my life and Saturday evening before our soiree I tied Adam’s new bow tie on my first try!! Doesn’t it look so great? He fits in perfectly as a Southern gentleman.
We went to A Charleston Affair on Saturday night, which is a huge cocktail party honoring the graduating seniors. Adam and I are neither graduating seniors nor alumni, but we did get a free ticket since I’m a graduate student, so we crashed it and had a ball. If you knew how long it’s taken me to compile this post and type the very small word count you might understand the thick head I am still sporting from Saturday night.
Prosecco and Bourbon never hurt anyone. Until the morning after…
The weekend culminated with a Beach House concert last night. They are so cool. She especially, with that cramazing (crazy+amazing) hair and rich, deep, soulful voice.
Oh, it is so rainy and gloomy here this morning. But that’s OK because I will be doing sexy things today, like studying for my Chaucer final and editing my Shakespeare paper that wrote itself the other night while I slumbered.
I also plan on listening to this little ditty of the yet-to-be-released new album from Beach House, Bloom. It’s scheduled to drop mid-May (yea, just dropped “drop”) and I can’t wait. But, I don’t even have to wait until then to get my Beach House fill because Mr. Adam scored some tickets for us to see them here in Chucktown (where, I tell ya, music never comes) May 6th. Saweet!
So here is “Myth” for your listening pleasure. I’ve always found Beach House to be the perfect music to just have on as you work about the house. It creates just the right amount of mysterious ambiance that I like to keep forever swirling about me. ::insert wavy dream sequence, screen dissolving into darkness emoticon::
Enjoy.
p.s. sorry the video is really stupid. it’s a new song, y’all.
Today is a gloomy, rainy gray day. When it’s chilly and cloudy, people in Charleston aren’t really sure what to do because so much of what goes on around here involves the outdoors. And while Fridays certainly aren’t my ideal rainy day (it’s the start of the freakin’ weekend, and I’mabout to have me some fun, fun–name that tune!) sometimes it’s nice to have a day indoors to help you appreciate all the other amazing days you get to rollick around in pure harmony. Also, I have some things to get finished for skewl and now I won’t be tempted to steal away to the beach.
So, if you’re like me, and wallowing in the monochromatic-ness of this slightly brooding day, then perhaps this tune is for you. It isn’t sad by any stretch, and in fact, it’s très chill and cool and will be a nice accompaniment as you sit and think about thoughts.
OR, if you are somewhere in the country where people are just running around, high-fiving the darnit out of everything, give this ditty a listen. It’s on a car commercial right now, so perchance you will recognize it. Envision yourself doing what those youngsters are doing: riding around in their crazy-cool SUV exploring uncharted territory. Where will your adventures take you this weekend?
There are little-to-no words to describe some of the photos I saw today. Buzz Feed created a compilation of “48 Pictures That Perfectly Capture the ’90s.” You absolutely must visit this site.
It’s Friday, so I know you need a little fuel to get the day going (it’s the freakin’ weekend, right, R Kelly?) and I think this list is just the trick. I included a few photos as a visual snack, but this is only to whet your appetite. Check out the list and let me know which one is your favorite. OK, I realize that’s too hard, so maybe narrow it down to a few you’re totally crushing on.

If you were a girl in the '90s you loved Lisa Frank. Don't even try to deny it. The more rainbows, the better.

Shortest weekend EVER. It feels like it absolutely flew. Somehow in the midst of the wine and gin and tonic drinking, Southern food eating, and laaaaazy Sunday retreating, I only managed to snag a few photos.
It was a terrific weekend. Lots (and lots and lots) of laughing, a healthy helping of indulging, and just good ol’ fashion fellowship. I kept telling Courtney that her stuff was getting shipped to my apartment this week because she is moving in, but she doesn’t believe me. I have my ways…I’ll make it happen.
